0330, Onboard the MC/90 Windstorm

Major General Xtremegene yawned and rubbed his eyes. He had spent all night going over the debriefing reports from the fleet's most recent outing. All in all, things did not look too bad; the tibanna gas would serve well to spin up their lasers to full power. While he was pondering the theoretical maximum laser yield used in the different ships of fleet, with the help of a trusty datapad, a knock on the door to his room woke him from a semi-stupified state.
"..Wha??" Xtreme mumbled. "Enter now, or forever hold your peace!"
The door slid back to reveal General Licah Fox, wtih a quizzical smirk on his face.
"Good morning, General.. or should I say night?. Been keeping busy with those reports I see?...Xtreme?"
Xtremegene snapped out of his reverie of staring out the door and coughed.
"Yes, everything's fine. I just had been hoping that Gav or Sig might send a message this way - they've not reported back in for some time," lamented Xtreme.
"Yeah, I think Gav's still out...enjoying himself I'm sure...at a nearby resort, and I don't know what Sig's up to. But listen, we need to stop worrying about the odd business with the last mission and find a way to get rid of that Frigate that's been bothering us recently. Well, first we need to find it.. so it doesn't find us first when we least want it to.."

0426, Onboard the MC/90 Windstorm

A loud, insistent tone woke up Ensign Pratt from his slumber at a desk in Intelligence. He muttered something fierce at the tone, blearily grasped at a few switches, and turned off the aural annoyance. He blinked a few times, trying to clear his vision, and peered at the incoming datapad. He caught a few key words...Marauder...found...asteroid, realized what the message was about, and woke up instantly. He grabbed a phone and dialed the number of his superior, calmly sleeping in bed, but about to receive a pleasant surprise once he picked up the phone.

1717, Onboard the MC/90 Windstorm

A frigate floated in the middle of the room, menacing and threatening even in its diminutiveness. A furry hand more than its size gently took hold of it and moved it a meter towards an asteroid field. The hand let go, and its accompanying voice spoke.
"This, gentlemen, is where we need to lure this little problem of ours."
A series of bright lines appeared on the holomap, showing hyperspace routes from the area. Though thick around the edges, they slimmed as they approached the asteroid field.
"As the Marauder approaches this spot, it will lose the ability to escape easily. It would then be vulnerable to.. say.. a force strong enough to destroy it in just a few minutes."
Licah paused here and smiled without humor at the frigate. It had caused a considerable amount of trouble in the PBF's previous mission.
Likely recalling that very mission, the smaller of the other two men present in the room, known to most as Major General Xtremegene, frowned, giving a hint of doubt. "How do you propose to trick the enemy commander like this? It is obvious that he is a formidable strategist from his recent ambush."
Licah smiled faintly. "I have an idea that might just trick our clever Frigate commander."
      He told them.

The next day..
1630, Onboard the MC/90 Windstorm

"...and then the McGrath, along with Red and FireClaw, will hyper in and deal the Marauder a fatal blow," the briefing officer finished.
The captain of the CRV Warden, present in the room along with his mate, the briefing officer, and you, raised his hand slightly. "So.. how, exactly, do you want us to lure the Frigate there? The usual just-out-of-reach trick?"
The officer smiled. "This is the good part. You're going to let them disable you."
The captain shook his head. "I knew it was going to be something crazy."
The officer continued, "It's the only way to convince the Marauder's captain that he's not walking into a trap. You'll pretend that you've been significantly damaged by the nearby asteroid field, and broadcast a surrender message as soon as you see the Marauder."
"You realize that if he doesn't buy it, we're bantha fodder?"
"Yes. However, this relies largely on your convincing performance. That's why we've chosen you specifically. And you, too," the officer nodded to you, "have shown enough skill to pull this off."
"So what then?" the captain asked. "We get disabled, sit there, wait for them to capture us, and hope that you manage to keep your end of the bargain?"
The officer smiled tightly. "That's the idea. We'll send TRN Hawk to repair you as soon as we arrive, provided that something else isn't already docking."
The captain grumbled, but was silent.
The officer now turned to you. "You'll be flying an A-wing in this endeavor. We have specially equipped it to be able to repair itself after being disabled, so you will be able to eventually fight without needing anyone to come repair you. Make sure to sit tight until the McGrath arrives, though, and not show any signs that your craft is being repaired, or else you could spoil the whole gambit. And doing that would likely cost you all your lives.
The corvette captain looked at you, silently, clearly evaluating you and making sure you knew that you had the lives of many in your hands.
The officer continued, "We recommend that you first repair your engines, then your flight control, so that you can fly away to deep space if things go badly. However, the order of repairs you use is up to you; we trust your judgment."
The officer frowned as he glanced down at his datapad. "I have a note here that I should mention. I don't recall what model of A-wing you are using for this mission, but if it is one of the "DOS" models, you may have considerable difficulty programming the order of repairs in your ship. The repairs will still happen, but it may be hard to control which happens first. This just seems to be the nature of the model's onboard computer, and we have not been able to fix it. If you have a "95" or "MAC" model, you will be fine and not have to worry about this problem. For that reason, we recommend that you take a "95" model for this mission, if one is available to you.
The officer smiled grimly. "Good luck, gentlemen.. this will be a difficult mission, but we hope that it will succeed. We have confidence in you. Dismissed."

2248, Asteroid Field

"ATTENTION REBEL CORVETTE, You are in Imperial space and must immediately stand down or be destroyed.
      "....damag....field....render....help..."

The Gunboats came and fired a flurry of blue bolts, immobilizing the green dots on the sensors, and the game was on...

Announcements:

PBF UG CO: Still looking for an eager and able-bodied person to take responsibility of this crucial position. Please email both Licah and me (licah@likeafox.net and xtremegene@rebelsquadrons.org )

PBF XO/SO: I am still considering the candidates at this point in time.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC):
Find us in #PBF on the Undernet network(IRC). You can use programs such as Xchat, mIRC, etc, to access the channel. There are usually a good number of members in the channel at any one time. You can just sit back and relax, or discuss the current mission, or whatever else comes to your mind. Talk to the CS if you are having problems getting this to work. We can help.

We have our own section on the RS Forums (http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/forums). Go forth and post to your heart's content!

League of Interpersonal Competitions:
This competition, previously the IBG's domain only, has now been opened to all flying fleets. An excerpt:

It's the hope of the IBG staff that this opening up of our MP system will
help rise the level of activity in all our flying units. LIC can be flown
anytime, so everyone should have a chance to join in.

The rules are simple, and can be found on the LIC site. We will update them
soon, with regard to the "extended version" of LIC. A pilot active in more
than one fleet can choose to report for the fleet she/he choose. This
doesn't need to be the same all the time. Also, both XvT and XWA can be
used. A round in LIC is two weeks.

With that said, if you are not in either the RgF or IBG, but just feel like testing your piloting skills in MP, this is a great opportunity to do so. At last glance, there was a problem with reporting for PBF squads, so I aim to get that resolved soon. (To set up matches, just ask around within your squads, or also on IRC or the forums. The website can be found at http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/lic )

It is disappointing to see the fleet reporting percentage drop to the 40% range, though with summer coming to a close now (and with a new, active fleet CS here/soon to be here), I expect to see activity to greatly increase.
